This is a very displayable specimen of Cheirurus (Crotalocephalina) gibbus from the Devonian of Morocco. This extremely large specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. This trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits incredible detail. The hypostoma (mouthplate) has been exposed in preparation, and the short genal spines are clearly defined. The triangular pleurons terminate in sharp points, and the upswept pygidial spines are fully intact and prepared in a free-standing manner. The 3-dimensional trilobite has fantastic natural color and contrast and is beautifully showcased on the massive block of sculpted limestone. And, believe it or not, this bug is almost FOUR inches long! This is a monster example of this distinctive trilobite.
