This is a classic US trilobite. It is a very large Trimerus (Dipleura) dekayi from New York State. This famous type of trilobite has been hunted for many decades, but the site has only ever produced a handful of complete specimens. This specimen is a composite - the head has been added to the body and tail.  The bug is extremely inflated and 3-dimensional. The trilobite is very detailed and is over five inches long - quite impressive. This is a nice specimen for the collector who wants a large Dipleura for their collection, but can't find one.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
