Here is an unusual trilobite. This is Subasaphus platyurus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This Asaphid trilobite has a somewhat triangular cephalon with slender genal spines. This trilobite is nicely inflated and very prone. It is well articulated and exhibits fine detail. The large, crescent-shaped eyes are easily seen and the genal spines are quite evident. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is presented on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very good example of this uncommon Asaphid trilobite.
