Here is an amazing death plate of trilobites from the Middle Cambrian ''Red Beds'' of Utah. There are WELL OVER TWO DOZEN specimens of Elrathia kingi and a handful of Peronopsis interstricta on this plate. All of these trilobites are natural to the plate - no compositing or addition of trilobites has been done to this incredible specimen. Almost all of the Elrathia are complete and have both free cheeks intact and tightly attached - this is extremely rare. The black color of the trilobites contrasts beautifully with the whitish matrix. The bugs are just teeming on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale that also contains a molt with hypostoma (mouthplate) preserved and well displayed (rare). This is a textbook specimen of a trilobite mass mortality plate from the Wheeler Shale.
