This is the third rarest trilobite from the Middleport Quarry. It is a nice Illaenus insignis from the Rochester Shale. This is not a specimen of the much-more-common Bumastus ioxus, although they look similar. This specimen is nicely outstretched and well articulated, which is extremely rare. The bug is well showcased in the center of a natural plate of shale. This is a fine example of this hard-to-find Silurian trilobite from New York State.
