Here is an excellent example of a highly collectible trilobite. This is Aristoharpes from the Devonian of Morocco. Harpid trilobites are among the most sought-after trilobites among collectors because of their rarity and bizarre design. This type of trilobite has a huge cephalon with a wide brim that extends into broad, sweeping genal spines. The thorax is composed of many, many segments and the pygidium is almost miniscule in comparison. This large specimen is nicely outstretched which is highly unusual. It is preserved in a very 3-dimensional fashion and exhibits great detail. The small eyes are easily seen and the granulose ornamentation of the brim is beautifully defined. The thorax is beautifully articulated and even the pygiium is intact. The dark color of the trilobite contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. It is well centered on the somewhat squared plate of limestone. This is a very displayable specimen of Aristoharpes - a trilobite designed to make collectors drool.
