Here is a relatively difficult-to-obtain trilobite from South America. This is Phacops brazilensis from the Devonian of Bolivia. This trilobite was part of the Edward Books Collection. At one time, Bolivian trilobites were obtainable. However, most of the local diggers got involved in the cocaine business which was much more profitable. These trilobites are found in concretions and usually in a contraflexed or partially enrolled position, as is this specimen. The bug is 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The individual thoracic segments are quite evident and the pygidium is intact. This is a nice example of this unusual Phacopid trilobite from South America.
