Here is a very uncommon Utah trilobite. This is Spencia typicalis from the Spence Shale of Utah. This specimen was found in a layer that preserved the thick shell exoskeleton - 99% of all trilobites found in the Spence Shale are only mold and cast - no skin fossilized. This trilobite is not only complete, it is fabulous! The bug is outstretched, wonderfully articulated, and exhibits fine detail. The both free cheeks are easily seen, and even the tips of the genal spines are clearly defined. The trilobite is beautifully showcased on the large, squared plate of shale. This is an extremely collectible example of this classic trilobite from the Spence Shale.
