This is a wonderful Ordovician trilobite. There is a large true Ceraurus pleurexanthemus on the plate. This fine fossil is from the famous Walcott-Rust Quarry (WRQ) near Trenton Falls, New York. Ceraurus pleurexanthemus is one of the original trilobites that Charles Walcott and James Hall made famous a century ago! This specimen is complete, with both free cheeks and eyes intact. The trilobite has great detail preserved, showcasing the pustulated, thick shell exoskeleton beautifully. The bug is very well articulated and is very well displayed on the semi-squared limestone plate that also has a TINY baby Ceraurus preserved above the red spot. Anyone who knows anything about the history of US trilobites knows how important a trilobite from this locality is - it is a piece of history. This is a very collectible example of a classic Ceraurus pleurexanthemus trilobite from New York State.
