Here is an interesting trilobite. This is Chotecops sp. from the famous Devonian slate of Bundenbach, Germany. This site is one of the few places in the world where the fossilized appendages of trilobites have been found. This specimen has been prepared to show the ventral surface of the trilobite. The outstretched bug is nicely articulated and exhibits fine detail. The individual thoracic segments are clearly defined and some of the individual eye lenses are easily seen. The fossil is replaced by iron pyrite or "fool's gold" and is nicely positioned on the large (5.4" X 5.8"), squared plate of roofing slate. This is a fine example of a well articulated trilobite from a "classic" site that is no longer producing specimens.
