This is a rare type of Russian trilobite. It is a Pterygometopus from the St. Petersburg area. This trilobite is from the Kunda Level, meaning it is older in geologic age than most of the Russian trilobites you see. This specimen has compound faceted eyes, which makes it one of the earliest trilobites to evolve compound eyes. This specimen is nicely outstretched and beautifully articulated. The bug's butterscotch coloration contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The excellent detail of the thick shell exoskeleton is easily seen. And the large eyes display prominently. This is a very hard-to-find trilobite from the Lower Ordovician.

This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
