Here is an extremely large example of Modocia typicalis from the Middle Cambrian of Utah. Specimens of this trilobite that are larger than one inch are highly uncommon. This trilobite is almost two inches long! This thick-shelled bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail. Both free cheeks are present and nicely attached. The dark brown trilobite contrasts well with the tannish-pink matrix. But the coolest feature on this trilobite is that it has two bitten pleurons and a larger bite out of the right free cheek! The predator was probably an Anomalocaris, the T. rex of the Cambrian seas. This is a very large, excellent (and highly unusual) example of a predated Modocia typicalis.
