Here is a very rare US trilobite. This is a complete Pterygometopus fredricki from the Ordovician of Iowa. This uncommon trilobite is usually found as parts - almost never complete! This is one of only three prone specimens that we have ever seen. This bug is nicely inflated and well articulated. Both compound eyes are present and show the individual facets. The thick, cream-colored exoskleton is quite beautiful and exhibits superb detail. The fine granulations on the cephalon are easily seen. The trilobite has great color and contrast and is well showcased on the small plate of matrix. This is an extremely collectible specimen of a very scarce Pterygometopus trilobite from Iowa.
