This is a classic US trilobite. It is a true Ceraurus pleurexanthemus from the famous Walcott-Rust Quarry near Trenton Falls, New York. This type is one of the original trilobites that Charles Walcott and James Hall made famous a century ago! This specimen is complete, with both free cheeks intact. The trilobite has great detail preserved, showcasing the thick shell exoskeleton beautifully. The bug also has the hypostoma (mouthplate) exposed - this is one of only a handful of these dorsal Ceraurus with the mouthplate displayed. And there is NO RESTORATION to this trilobite whatsoever - it was prepared from a cross section! Anyone who knows anything about the history of US trilobites knows how important a trilobite from this locality is - it is a piece of history. This is a very collectible example of a classic Ceraurus pleurexanthemus trilobite with mouthplate from New York State.
