This is a fabulous Lower Cambrian trilobite. It is a striking Olenellus gilberti from the Pioche Formation of Nevada. This specimen was recently acquired from a major trilobite collection, and you can easily see why. The trilobite is complete including the long telson (tailspine). The detail of this trilobite is simply awesome - the tiny pleural spines are wonderfully showcased, and the bulbous glabella is not crushed like almost every other Olenellus gilberti. The bug is nicely inflated and well showcased on the large matrix plate. But it is the natural dark color and incredible contrast that makes this bug stand out. This is easily one of the most displayable Olenellus trilobites we have ever seen, period.
