This is a very unusual Silurian trilobite. It is an undescribed species of Odontochile from Wisconsin. This specimen was previously a part of the DeRosear Collection. This unusual trilobite is featured on page 134 of the new Trilobite Book by Johnson. The description reads, "Dalmanites sp., from the Silurian, Joliet Formation, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. These...trilobites represent a previously unrecognized species and perhaps a new genus. Note the indented posterior rim at the center of the pygidium." That last sentence is very important - this type of trilobite has a distinct indentation, or notch, exactly where most Dalmanites have a long tailspine! The bug is a natural, off-white color, which made them extremely dificult to photograph, but the actual quality is much better than the photo shows. This is a very rare offering of an undescribed Odontochile acquired directly from the DeRosear Collection.
