This is a very uncommon Asaphid trilobite. It is an Asaphus latus from the Lower Ordovician of Russia. This type of Asaphid trilobite has large eyes and a rounded cephalon. This specimen is just huge - it is almost 4 inches long and very wide. The complete trilobite is nicely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The bug is well preserved in an outstretched position and exhibits fine detail. The distinct eyes are easily seen, and the individual thoracic segments are clearly defined. The caramel-colored bug contrasts strikingly with the lighter-colored matrix that also has a two cystoids preserved. The fossil trilobite is beautifully showcased on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is an extremely collectible example of this unusual Asaphid trilobite.
