This is a very large Asaphid trilobite. It is a complete Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This specimen is huge - almost four and a half inches long. The bug is extremely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The large, protruding eyes are easily seen, and the individual thoracic segments are quite distinct. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The bug is well positioned on the large, natural plate of limestone. This is a very displayable specimen of this classic Asaphid trilobite - we have seen very few Russian Asaphids this large and this nice.
