Here is a very attractive Russian trilobite. This is Illaenus atavus from the Middle Ordovician. This particular species of Illaenus has very rounded genal angles. This trilobite is complete and extremely prone - which is highly uncommon. Most Illaenid trilobites have the cephalon in a ''tucked'' position. This bug is 3-dimensionally preserved and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The butterscotch-colored trilobite contrasts well with the light-colored matrix and makes for a beautiful display. This is a striking example of an outstretched Illaenus atavus from Russia.
