As everyone knows, complete Carboniferous trilobites are quite rare and highly collectible. This is an outstanding double specimen of Ameropiltonia lauradanae from the Mississippian of Missouri. This specimen is totally natural - the trilobites have not been composited. It is very rare to find two examples of this trilobite in such close proximity to each other. This type of trilobite has fine granules completely covering the exoskeleton, which are quite evident on both of these bugs. The two trilobites are inflated and well preserved in dorsal view. Both trilobites are complete and nicely articulated. All of the free cheeks are intact and tightly attached, which is highly unusual. The brownish color of the trilobites contrasts beautifully with the gray matrix. The fossils are well presented on a large (2.5'' X 3.0''), rectangular plate of shaley limestone that also contains a pygidium of yet another trilobite. This is a very fine double specimen of Ameropiltonia lauradanae from the Chouteau Formation. (MUCH better than the photo shows.)
