This is the definition of a classic trilobite. It is a beautiful Acaste downingiae from the famous Wren's Nest locality in Dudley, England. Dudley trilobites are among the most sought-after trilobites in the world, and this fabulous specimen was recently acquired from the famous Collection of the English Trilobites of John Page. This is an actual Acaste downingiae from Dudley, not from the areas NEAR the original locality - this is the real thing. This trilobite is essentially perfectly preserved - complete and outstretched. The fossil is nicely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The detail of the exoskeleton is simply amazing, since it was prepared by hand decades ago and not air abraided! The bug is free of matrix and just seems to jump right up at you! If you know anything about the history of Dudley trilobites, you will understand how rare and exciting this gem truly is!
