Here is a beautiful classic trilobite. This is Phacops crassituberculata from the famous Silica Formation of Ohio. This specimen was found YEARS ago and was recently acquired from the famous DeRosear Collection. This large trilobite is wonderfully prone and almost perfectly articulated. The bug is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fantastic detail. The large, compound eyes are excellent - the individual lenses are fully intact and very easily seen. The pustulose glabella is nicely displayed, and the texture of the thick-shelled exoskeleton is superb. This bug has great, natural dark brown color and contrasts beautifully with the light grey limestone base. Yes, this bug was found in a dense limestone lense, a very rare occurrence - most of the trilobites are found in the shales. This is a gorgeous, 3-dimensional example of a Sylvania Phacops from the DeRosear Collection.
