Here is an extremely unusual trilobite from Morocco. This is a complete specimen of Heliopyge sp. from the Devonian. This type of trilobite has a very wide cephalon with short genal spines. The pleurons of the thorax also extend into spines, and the triangular pygidium even has five pair of long spines. This specimen is very inflated and 3-D. The trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits excellent detail. The crescent-shaped eyes are well preserved - the individual lenses are very easily seen. The fossil has nice, natural coloration that contrasts well with the light-colored limestone block. The bug is well showcased in the center of the sculpted matrix base. This is a collectible example of this rare trilobite from Morocco.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
