Here is an excellent example of a highly collectible trilobite. This is a large Harpes perradiatus from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was microscopically prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. Harpid trilobites are some of the most sought-after trilobites among collectors because of their rarity and bizarre design. This type of trilobite has a huge cephalon with a wide brim that extends into broad, sweeping genal spines. The thorax is composed of many, many segments and the pygidium is almost miniscule in comparison. This distinct specimen is nicely outstretched, which is highly unusual. The trilobite is preserved in a very 3-dimensional fashion and exhibits great detail. The small eyes are easily seen, and the granulose ornamentation of the cephalic brim is beautifully defined. The thorax is tightly articulated, and even the pygidium is intact, which is extremely rare. The dark color of the trilobite contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. The bug is well centered on the large block of sculpted limestone. This is a very collectible and displayable specimen of Harpes perradiatus.
