This is a beautifully prepared trilobite. It is a large Zlichovaspis rugosa from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was expertly prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab here in Colorado. This stunning trilobite is extremely inflated and very well articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The thick shell exoskeleton of the bug is superbly preserved and exhibits outstanding detail. The long, broad genal spines are clearly defined, and one of the genal spines and the front cephalic ''lip'' has even been prepared free-standing! Under magnification, the individual lenses of the large compound eyes are very easily seen. The tips of the pleurons are all intact, and the short caudal spine is quite distinct. The dark brown color of the trilobite contrasts strikingly with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is beautifully showcased on the large sculpted limestone block. This bug has that certain character rarely found in Moroccan trilobites. It is one of the best quality Zlichovaspis rugosa trilobites we have ever seen.
