Here is an extremely rare Middle Cambrian trilobite from China. This is Oryctocephalus sp. from the Kaili Beds - this formation contains a fauna that is very similar to the famous Burgess Shale deposits of Canada. This bug is complete and nicely outstretched. The trilobite is exhibits superb detail - both free cheeks are present, which is very rare. The individual thoracic segments are easily seen, and the thoracic spines are distinct and clearly defined - even the pygidial spines are intact! The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is well showcased on the rounded plate of matrix. This is an unusually complete example of this rare spiny trilobite from China.
