This is a gorgeous trilobite. It is a large Metacanthina issoumourensis from the Devonian of Morocco. This distinct trilobite has been meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. The 3-dimensional bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits outstanding detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are nearly perfect and very easily seen. The pointed snout has been prepared in a free standing manner, along with both genal spines. The dark, chocolate-brown trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-brown matrix. The fossil is wonderfully showcased on the large, sculpted block of limestone. This is one of the better quality specimens of Asteropyge that we have ever prepared.
