This is a stunning specimen of a RARE US trilobite. It is a large Ceraurinus icarus(?) from the DeRosear Collection. Doug had this specimen for years, unprepared, and it was just now expertly prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab. This trilobite is complete, with the thick shell exoskeleton is incredibly well preserved. The natural blond coloration of the bug is amazing - subtle, yet striking. Both genal spines have been prepared free-standing, and the tail and head have been sculpted as to expose the hypostoma (mouthplate), which is extremely unusual. Although enrolled, this is one of the most complete examples of this type we have seen. It is a textbook example of this fabled trilobite from the Midwestern United States.
