This is a beautiful plate of fossils. There are two excellent Asaphid trilobites and two primitive cystoids, on the same plate. This specimen is from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. Both trilobites are of the type, Asaphus (Neoasaphus) punctatus. This species has very large, protruding eyes - both specimens display this feature beautifully. The trilobites are very prone and nicely articulated. The bugs have excellent detail and wonderful, thick exoskeleton preserved. Associated with the two trilobites are two Echinosphaerites sp., a spherical cystoid. All of the fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and have great color and contrast. The fossils are well positioned on the large plate of sculpted limestone. This is a gorgeous example of distinct Ordovician sea life from Russia.
