This is not your everyday Bumastus ioxus from the Rochester Shale of New York. This trilobite is preserved in a large bed of bryozoans! The Bumastus is complete and very 3-dimensional. The bug is quite prone and nicely articulated. Both free cheeks are present, which is somewhat unusual. The chocolate-brown exoskeleton is uncommonly intact and extremely well preserved. But the fact that it was living within a colony of bryozoa is truly amazing. This is a very unique example of an unusual association of animals in the Silurian.
