This is a incredible example of an extremely unusual US trilobite. It is a pristine specimen of Cybeloides iowensis from the Ordovician of Iowa. I was told by a trilobite collector who would know, that this is probably the second best specimen of this type ever found - and maybe the best! This trilobite is usually found disarticulated, if found at all - this one is super-tight. The bug is almost perfectly prone and very 3-dimensionally preserved. The trilobite exhibits very fine detail. The stalked eyes are easily seen protruding above the carapace, and the pustules that cover the head, body, and tail are all easily seen. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the buff-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the large, rectangular block of limestone - what more could you want? This is an irreplaceable specimen of Cybeloides iowensis, one of the most unusual and sought-after trilobites from Iowa.
