Here is an extremely unusual trilobite from Morocco. This is a fabulous specimen of Heliopyge sp. from the Devonian. This specimen was recently acquired from a major trilobite collection. This type of trilobite has a very wide cephalon with short genal spines. The pleurons of the thorax also extend into spines, and the triangular pygidium even has five pair of long spines. This specimen is extremely inflated and 3-D. The trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits excellent detail. The crescent-shaped eyes are just fantastic - the individual lenses are near perfect in preservation. The fossil has striking natural coloration that contrasts nicely with the light-colored sculpted limestone. The bug is well showcased on the rounded concretionary matrix. This is a top quality example of this rare trilobite from Morocco - the best we've ever seen.
