This is a stunning specimen of an ULTRA RARE US trilobite. It is a distinct Sphaerocoryphe fayettensis from Iowa. This type of trilobite is one of the most sought-after genus AND species in the world. The trilobite is well articulated, and the thick shell exoskeleton is incredibly well preserved. The natural blond coloration of the bug is amazing - subtle, yet striking. The one genal spine and one tailspine are free-standing - the other two are present, but not seen in the photo. And, yes, the huge, bulbous nose is fully natural and unrestored! Although enrolled, this is one of the most articulated examples of this type we have seen. It is an extremely collectible example of this fabled trilobite from the Midwestern United States.
