This is an excellent specimen of Drotops megalomanicus from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. This Phacopid trilobite is not only large - it is EXTREMELY inflated and wonderfully articulated. This specimen exhibits great detail - the granulose texture of the thick shell exoskeleton is very well defined. Almost all of the individual lenses of the eyes are easily seen. The black trilobite contrasts nicely with the grey matrix. The bug is wonderfully showcased on the large block of sculpted limestone. And if you flip the rock over, the hypostoma (mouthplate) is also beautifully displayed! Every trilobite collector should have a fabulous Drotops in their collection - unfortunately, there just aren't enough good ones to go around.
