This is an extremely unusual trilobite. It is a distinct Ceraurus plattenensis from Iowa. This specimen is from the Decorah Formation, not the more common Maquoketa Formation, which is extremely uncommon. This trilobite is beautifully preserved - the bug has excellent detail displayed. The trilobite is beautifully displayed on a natural plate of matrix. The hypostoma (mouthplate) has been exposed from the other side as an added bonus. The chocolate-brown color is fully natural and is quite striking. This is a rare Iowa Ceraurus from the elusive Decorah Formation.
