This is an extremely rare triple plate of Mississippian trilobites. These are Comptonaspis swallowi from the Mississippian of Missouri. There are three complete examples on the slab. This genus of trilobite has a very smooth carapace - almost totally devoid of any ornamentation. This type of trilobite is found in the same formation as Breviphillipsia sampsoni, but Comptonaspis is about ten times more rare. There are two ventral specimens on the plate, both showing the hypostoma (mouthplate), which is extremely rare. The bugs are very well preserved. The dark brown color of the trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The trilobites are well showcased on the rectangular limestone plate. This is a rare TRIPLE plate of this highly uncommon trilobite from the Mississippian. (There is even an enrolled Griffithidella on the plate!)
