This is a very large Asaphid trilobite. It is a complete Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This specimen is just massive - almost FIVE inches long and three inches wide! The bug is extremely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The large, protruding eyes are easily seen, and the individual thoracic segments are quite distinct. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The bug is well positioned on the large, natural plate of limestone that also contains two fabulous specimens of Echinosphaerites sp., a cystoid. The cystoids display their crystalline structure in fine fashion. This is an extremely large and collectible specimen of this classic Asaphid trilobite.
