Here is a fabulous example of a very rare trilobite. This is Scotoharpes spasskii from the Ordovician of Russia. It has been quite a while since we have seen a prone specimen of this particular trilobite. Harpid trilobites are very rare and among the most collectible trilobites in the world. This type has an extremely broad cephalic brim with many pits and corrugations. The bug has many thoracic segments and a small pygidium. The trilobite is beautifully preserved and has a nice, thick exoskeleton, which is very unusual for this type. The ancient arthropod has excellent color and contrasts extremely well with the light-colored matrix. The outstretched trilobite is almost perfectly centered on the natural block of limestone. This is a spectacular specimen of an extremely rare Scotoharpes.
