This is a gorgeous trilobite. It is a very fine Metacanthina issoumourensis from the Devonian of Morocco. This large trilobite has been meticulously prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. The 3-dimensional bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits outstanding detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are easily seen. But the most striking feature of this trilobite is that the head has been prepared fully freestanding! The genal spines are free of matix, and the hypostoma (mouthplate) is even exposed (rare!). The fossil is beautifully showcased, in high relief, on the sculpted block of limestone. This is one of the most displayable specimens of Metacanthina issoumourensis that we have ever seen.
