This is a very rare trilobite fossil. It is very collectible Yunnanocephalus yunnanensis from the famous Chengjiang locality in China. This site is known worldwide for soft-body preservation of Lower Cambrian animals. The fauna is very similar to the Burgess Shale, but it is OLDER! Many one-of-a-kind organisms have been described exclusively from this formation.
This complete trilobite is extremely well preserved and exhibits very fine detail. The individual thoracic segments are easily seen, and both free cheeks are present, which is extremely unusual. The fossil has beautiful natural color and contrast and is well centered on the large, squared plate of matrix. This is a very rare and extremely sought-after trilobite from one of the most famous invertebrate fossil localities in the world.
