This is an excellent trilobite. It is a fine Metacanthina (=Asteropyge) issoumourensis from the Devonian of Morocco. This inflated trilobite has been meticulously prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. The 3-dimensional bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits outstanding detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are intact, and the distinct occipital spine is easily seen. The dark, chocolate-brown trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-brown matrix. The fossil is well presented on the large, sculpted block of limestone. This is one of the better quality specimens of Metacanthina issoumourensis that we have had.
