Here is a relatively difficult-to-obtain trilobite from South America. This is Pennaia verneuili from the Devonian of Bolivia. At one time, Bolivian trilobites were more readily obtainable. However, most of the local diggers got involved in the cocaine business, which was much more profitable. Now, it is quite difficult to get specimens from this area. These trilobites are found in concretions and usually in an extremely contraflexed position. This trilobite is preserved in an almost prone position and is very 3-dimensional. The detail of the bug is quite nice, and the natural color is striking. The individual thoracic segments are quite evident, and the small, triangular pygidium is intact. This is a very fine example of this unusual Phacopid trilobite.
