This is a very rare trilobite fossil. It is very collectible Eoredlichia intermedia from the famous Chengjiang locality in China. This site is known worldwide for soft-body preservation of Lower Cambrian animals. The fauna is very similar to the Burgess Shale, but it is OLDER! Many one-of-a-kind organisms have been described exclusively from this formation.
This trilobite is extremely well preserved and exhibits very fine detail. The individual thoracic segments are easily seen, and even the free cheeks are intact. But the most amazing feature of this specimen is the LONG axial spine that is still preserved and extends well past the tail of the trilobite (which is still covered by matrix to keep the spine intact). The fossil has very good natural color and contrast and is well positioned on a natural plate of matrix. This is a very rare and extremely sought-after trilobite from one of the most famous invertebrate fossil localities in the world.
