This is a ''classic'' trilobite from a world-famous site. It is a large Phacops crassituberculata from the Devonian of Ohio. It differs from Eldredgeops in the number of eye facets and in the fact that it has angular, rather than round, eye sockets. The trilobite is beautifully prone and nicely articulated. It is preserved in a very 3-dimensional manner and exhibits fine detail. The eyes of the trilobite are near perfect - the individual lenses of both eyes are beautifully displayed. The coarse pustules on the glabella are easily seen. The trilobite has excellent dark brownish-black color (with a hint of golden pyrite) and contrasts wonderfully with the gray matrix. It is well positioned on the natural block of shale. This is an excellent specimen of Phacops crassituberculata from the Silica Shale.
