Here is a very attractive Russian trilobite. This is Illaenus atavus from the Lower Ordovician. This particular species of Illaenus has very rounded genal angles and an elongate tail. This trilobite is complete and extremely prone, which is highly uncommon - most Illaenid trilobites have the cephalon in a ''tucked'' position. This bug is 3-dimensionally preserved and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The butterscotch-colored trilobite contrasts well with the light-colored matrix and makes for a beautiful display. The trilobite is wonderfully sculpted on a large, natural plate of limestone that also contains a partial stalk-eyed Asaphus. This is a striking example of an uncommon Illaenus from Russia.
