This is a very strange spiny trilobite. It is a Ceratarges (Type D) from the Devonian of Morocco. This trilobite was professionally prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. This type differs from the other species of Ceratarges in that it has a broad body and thin, upturned tail spines. This 3-dimensionally preserved trilobite has many beautiful spines displayed. It has two long, thick ''Ram's Horns'' on the head that have been prepared free-standing. There are two long, upturned genal spines and two pairs of short, thin spines emanating up from the pygidium. In addition to these longer tailspines, there is a long, vertical tailspine and also many short spines in between the larger spines on the pygidium. Also, each long pleuron tapers into a pointed tip - even the eyes are borne on stalks, which have been prepared totally free of matrix. The fossil arthropod is beautifully showcased on the sculpted block of limestone. This is a breathtaking example of this rare type of Ceratarges from Morocco.
