This is a breathtaking plate of trilobites from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. An extremely 3-dimensional Cheirurus (Crotalocephalina) gibbus is well displayed on the block of limestone. This trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits extraordinary detail - the hypostoma (mouthplate) is easily seen, and the pygidium has all of the tailspines prepared free-standing. A complete Zlichovaspis rugosa is also showcased on the plate. This clearly-defined trilobite also has fine detail preserved. Both LONG genal spines have been meticulously prepared in a free-standing position for optimal display. Both bugs are completely natural to the plate - they have not been composited or altered! But the most unique feature of this piece is the amazing natural color - simply put, the Cheirurus is red, and the Zlichovaspis is green! We have never seen natural trilobite colors this striking, especially on the same plate! This is a beautiful example of two distinct trilobites that contrast in every way.
