This is a very robust specimen of Drotops megalomanicus from the Devonian of Morocco. This trilobite is extremely 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. The trilobite is beautifully preserved and exhibits fine detail. It is very difficult to find a Drotops with good eyes - this specimen has excellent eyes - the individual lenses of the large, compound eyes are clearly defined. The coarse pustules on the thick-shelled exoskeleton are also easily seen. The black trilobite contrasts nicely with the grey matrix. The bug is well centered on the somewhat sculpted block of dense limestone. The large size of the brawny bug along with the fine detail make for a stunning display of this huge Phacopid trilobite.
