This is an excellent example of a rare spiny trilobite. It is a large Saharops bensaïdi from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. This type of trilobite has a very wide cephalon, a short anterior process, slightly flaring genal spines, and three rows of short vertical spines - this specimen showcases these features beautifully. The bug is very 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. The thin, pointed pleural spines are clearly defined and the broad, long pygidial spines are beautifully displayed. The three rows of vertical spines have been prepared in a free-standing manner. The black, thick-shelled exoskeleton of the bug contrasts strikingly with the lighter-colored matrix. The trilobite is well centered on the large, sculpted block of dense limestone. This is a very collectible specimen of this uncommon spiny trilobite from the Atlas Mountains
