This is a beautiful Scutellid trilobite. It is a rare Thysanopeltis sp.(?) from Morocco. This type differs from Thysanopeltis speciosa in that the pygidium is not as bulbous and oversized - it is only the size of a Scabriscutellum's tail. This bug showcases this feature beautifully. The trilobite is complete and has both free cheeks intact and tightly articulated. The thick shell exoskeleton is incredibly well preserved - the ribs and spines on the tail are wonderfully showcased. But the main feature of this specimen is that the row of tailspines along the edge of the tail is either bitten or pathologically deformed! We have never seen anything quite like this. This is a top quality example of this rare, spiny Scutellid trilobite that just happens to be super weird.
